Black Hole

For nearly five years, growing numbers of researchers have blamed the weird orbits of distant solar system objects on the gravitational effects of an as-yet-undiscovered Planet Nine that lies in the icy realm far beyond Neptune. But a pair of scientists is no…

Friday, September 27th 2019, 4:45 pm - Black holes are among the most extreme objects in our universe Just this week, astronomers with NASA announced an amazing discovery - a black hole in the beginning stages of tearing apart a unlucky star. To accompany t…

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. space agency NASA's planet-hunting Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) have observed the rarely-seen aftermath of a star that was violently ripped apart by a supermassive black hole. The study published in t…

Understanding the Bubbles at the Center of the Milky Way First spotted in the 1980s, a massive filament-like structure has been seen in the Milky Way some 100 times over the past 30+ years. With the supermassive black hole at its center, its “billowy lobes r…

For years, scientists have been scanning the outer reaches of the solar system for signs of Planet Nine, a world that could be about 10 times as massive as Earth. While this speculative planet has not been directly detected, its presence is inferred by the gr…

NASA’s TESS mission recently captured a rare event called a tidal disruption event, an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when a black hole ripping a star to shreds as it consumes it. This type of astronomical event happens once every 10,000 to 100,000 year…

Black hole breakthrough: NASA captures its first-ever black hole tearing a star to shreds - Express.co.uk

By Joey Routlette WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Scientists have captured a view of a colossal black hole violently ripping apart a doomed star, illustrating a extraordinary and chaotic cosmic event from beginning to end for the first time using NASA's planet-huntin…

Scientists have spotted the best evidence yet of a trio of supermassive black holes in apparently merging galaxies, a new paper reports. Theories of the universes evolution predict that galaxies, and the enormous black holes at their centers, evolve over tim…

NASA released a visualization of what a black hole might look like up close, and its mesmerizing to see.  The visualization simulates how a black holes dense gravity would distort our view, resulting in a warped image that resembles a reflection in a carniva…
